“Barrier Free”
Getaway Experience!

As builders in the Pikes Peak Region of Colorado, our primary market is second homes. Over the years we have developed into a specialty builder of small, energy efficient, (sometimes) wheel chair accessible, mountain cabins and cottages, in both single family, and hospitality.  During this time we’ve encountered special requests from some of our clients that involve eliminating certain barriers in their everyday lives. Although many of our clients are not currently in wheel chairs, they may have a friend or family member who visits, or are simply preparing for the physical challenges that arise with growing older. In many cases, this second home will someday become their full time residence.
Most of today’s budget oriented buyers are realizing that, if they will consider these customizations, and “ability” features during a new construction project, they can achieve their goals more cost effectively, than trying to retro fit older existing homes to suit their specific needs. From the beginning, we will work together with our clients on designing specific components into their new home or cabin that allow their “getaway experience” to be free of physical barriers.
Your home can be designed with just a handful of basic elements, or fully customized with state of the art equipment and technologies. Some of these features may include:
Basic accommodations such as 36” doors with lever handles and wider hall ways to accommodate wheelchairs. Closet shelving heights may be adjusted for easy reach, grab bars in multiple areas of the home, and outswing patio doors with a handicap threshold.
In the kitchen and bathrooms we will design roll under vanities and cook tops, roll out trays and cabinet organizers, lever handle or automated sink faucets, modified workstations, roll in showers and walk in bath tubs with grab bars, and 5’ radius around commodes with bidets.
Electrical modifications can also make life easier! Placing light switches and electrical outlets at specific heights, smart home features and home automation / security systems, etc…
Accessing your new cabin and outdoor living can also be free of barriers with the use of ramps, widened sidewalks, pathways, decks, and chair lifts for elevated entry ways. Garages, covered walk ways, and elevators are always a consideration.
Minimum Maintenance is also an important factor for anyone purchasing a second home, but especially someone without the means to manage their own home maintenance. (See our standard construction features).
